Modo Yoga is a leading franchise in the hot yoga and wellness industry. It operates a global network of eco-conscious yoga studios that offer heated yoga classes, workshops, and teacher training. Founded under the original name Moksha Yoga, Modo builds community through movement, mindfulness, and sustainable practices.
The roots of Modo Yoga trace back to 2004 when co-founders Jessica Robertson and Ted Grand launched Moksha Yoga in Toronto. In 2012, the corporate entity Modo Yoga International, Inc. was formed in British Columbia, Canada, with a principal address in Campbell River.
The brand headquarters is now based in Toronto, Ontario. Modo Yoga began franchising in 2013, converting many former Moksha studios into franchised Modo locations.
Modo Yoga differentiates itself in the crowded boutique yoga market through ecological design, inclusive community, and a mission of sustainability. The brand promotes its “Six Pillars” — Be Green, Be Community, Be Accessible, Be Healthy, Live to Learn, and Be Peace — to guide studio culture.

Number of units
Modo Yoga had 8 total units in 2025, of which 8 were franchised-owned and 0 company-owned.
Modo Yoga provides a robust training program to prepare franchisees, managers, and staff to operate their studios effectively. The training includes foundational yoga certification, studio management, and ongoing educational requirements to maintain system standards.
Foundational Teacher Training Franchisees must employ at least five yoga teachers who have completed Modo Yoga’s certified Foundational Training course. While the initial franchise fee covers a portion of this cost, the franchisee is responsible for the remaining fees.
Studio Owner Training Within 365 days of signing the Franchise Agreement—but no later than 180 days before opening—the franchisee or majority owner must complete the studio owner training. This program includes live or recorded webinars, manuals, and in-person classes as determined by the Franchisor.
Evaluation During Training Franchisees are assessed during studio owner training to determine their readiness. Failure to complete this successfully allows the Franchisor to terminate the agreement.
Annual and Additional Training Franchisees, managers, and other designated personnel must attend annual meetings and any refresher or additional training as specified. These may cover updated business practices, system improvements, or enhanced teaching methodologies.
Territory Protection
Modo Yoga provides franchisees with a defined territory where it agrees not to open or license another studio using its brand during the term of the Franchise Agreement.
The boundaries of this territory are described in the agreement’s schedule and are based on geographic mapping data. However, this protection ends if the franchisee does not renew, at which point Modo Yoga can open new studios in the former territory.
Although franchisees are granted a territory, Modo Yoga emphasizes that this does not constitute exclusivity. Franchisees may still face indirect competition from the Franchisor through online sales, national promotions, or brand extensions, and no rights are granted to solicit clients outside their territory.
