Training Mateis a boutique fitness franchise that offers 45-minute low-impact HIIT classes designed to be fun, inclusive, and effective. Founded in 2013 by former professional rugby player Luke Milton in West Hollywood, the brand blends Australian-inspired camaraderie with high-energy workouts that welcome both seasoned athletes and beginners.
Today the company is headquartered in Dallas, Texas, and began offering franchise opportunities in 2022 to expand its footprint across the United States. The concept is built around a strong community ethos: coaches are friendly and approachable rather than intimidating, and each studio emphasizes social connection just as much as physical fitness.
What sets Training Mate apart from many competitors is its combination of high-intensity workouts with a welcoming, social environment and a distinctly Australian tone. The model uses centrally designed programming, varied equipment, and short-station circuits so that no two workouts are the same, helping the studio stay exciting and accessible for different fitness levels.

Training Mate offers a structured and multi-layered training program to ensure franchisees and their teams can effectively operate their studios. The training includes both initial and ongoing components, targeting operational knowledge, compliance, and fitness instruction.
Initial Training Program: Training Mate provides this to up to two individuals, including the Designated Principal, without tuition fees. It covers essential aspects of studio operations, with travel and related expenses borne by the franchisee.
Opening Assistance: Franchisees receive site selection and operational support before launch, including help with setting up and navigating early-stage challenges.
Fitness Instructor Training: All instructors must attend specialized training at a designated location. If a franchisee operates more than two studios, a certified trainer program may be required to train in-house instructors.
Ongoing Training: Franchisees may be required to attend ongoing events such as webinars, conferences, or seminars, up to twice per year, with related costs and registration fees covered by the franchisee.
Substitute or Remedial Training: If the original manager fails to complete training or a new manager is appointed, additional training must be taken at the franchisee's expense, which includes per-trainer daily fees and travel costs.
Territory Protection
Training Mate offers franchisees a defined Territory, usually described using specific geographic boundaries and typically includes a three-mile radius from the Studio’s front door.
During the franchise term, Training Mate will not allow another Training Mate studio to open in the franchisee’s Territory, giving a level of territorial protection. However, franchisees are not granted exclusive rights beyond this—meaning they may face competition from other Training Mate outlets nearby and are not guaranteed rights of first refusal or options for other locations.
Despite the protection within the assigned Territory, Training Mate and its affiliates reserve the right to operate or license others to operate studios outside the Territory, regardless of proximity or impact.
