Preservan is a fast-growing home services franchise that specializes in wood rot repair and restoration across the United States. The company was founded in 2016 by Ty McBride in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Preservan was built on a mission to save existing structures through advanced restoration techniques rather than costly replacements. The brand uses proprietary epoxy resin technology to repair wood rot on doors, windows, trim, and other architectural features.

Preservan is headquartered in Oklahoma City and began franchising in 2022. The franchise model allows entrepreneurs to operate a mobile wood-rot repair business with strong brand support. The company emphasizes efficient service, with many repairs completed within 48 hours.

Preservan franchisees offer specialized wood restoration services for residential and commercial clients. Their restoration-first approach saves homeowners significantly compared to full replacements and greatly reduces landfill waste.

Training

Preservan offers a robust and multi-tiered training structure designed to ensure franchisees are fully prepared to operate their business in line with brand standards. The programs include:

  1. Initial Training Program
Franchisees must complete an initial training program within 45 days of their scheduled or actual opening date. This training is provided to the Managing Owner and up to two management-level employees, one of whom must be designated as the Territory Manager. Training includes classroom and on-the-job instruction and may be held at the franchisor’s designated location or virtually.
  2. Territory Manager Training Program
If the designated Territory Manager is someone other than the Managing Owner, they must complete an additional training session. This comes with a Territory Manager Training Fee of $3,500 plus travel and lodging expenses. An annual supplemental training session for Territory Managers is also required, costing $1,000.
  3. Supplemental Training
Preservan may require supplemental training if the franchisee fails to meet performance standards or when a new Operating Manager is hired. The supplemental training fee is $500 per trainer per day, in addition to travel and accommodation costs. Franchisees must pre-pay these fees upon invoicing.
  4. Refresher and System-Wide Training
Franchisees and their management must attend periodic refresher courses or system-wide training sessions as designated by the franchisor. These sessions aim to maintain consistency and reinforce operational standards. Franchisees are responsible for all travel and participation costs.

Territory Protection

Preservan grants franchisees a defined “Operating Territory,” the size of which is based on household counts and local factors such as wood deterioration zones. Territories can range from 100,000 to 300,000 households, depending on the area's risk level for wood deterioration.

Franchisees may acquire additional territories upon approval and payment of added fees, but these areas are not exclusive. While Preservan restricts franchisees to operate only within their designated territory, it reserves the right to market and sell services through alternative channels such as the internet, catalogs, or national accounts.

Franchisees are prohibited from directly soliciting outside their territory and must cease servicing any area once it becomes assigned to another operator. Additionally, if a franchisee declines to participate in corporate accounts within their territory, Preservan can assign those jobs to others without compensation to the franchisee.
