Steamoji is a children-focused “maker academy” franchise that provides hands-on STEAM education, blending science, technology, engineering, art, and math. The franchise helps school-aged kids build real-world skills through practical projects designed to prepare them for a technology-driven future.

Steamoji was founded in 2019 by parents and tech professionals who saw the need for stronger innovation-focused education. The company is headquartered in Mountain View, California. It began franchising in 2022, expanding quickly across the United States and Canada.

The franchise offers a structured, turnkey model for entrepreneurs who want to open a STEAM-education center in their community.

Steamoji differentiates itself through its project-based “maker” curriculum, where kids build robots, code games, design 3D-printed projects, and explore engineering and digital arts. This hands-on approach sets it apart from traditional tutoring centers by focusing on creativity, problem-solving, and future-ready skills.

Training

Steamoji provides a comprehensive training program for its franchisees to ensure that each Academy maintains consistent standards and performance. The franchisor delivers training through several structured stages:

  1. Initial Online Training Program (Phase One): Shortly after executing the Franchise Agreement, the principal owner and Academy Director begin an eight-week online training program. This phase is designed to provide foundational knowledge and align franchisees with Steamoji’s operational standards.
  2. Final Online Training Program (Phase Two): When an estimated opening date is determined, another eight-week phase of online training commences for the same individuals. This phase is tailored to prepare the team specifically for launch operations.
  3. In-Person Training: Approximately 30 days prior to the Academy’s opening, both the principal owner and Academy Director must attend a week-long in-person training session at a location designated by Steamoji. All travel and accommodation costs are borne by the franchisee.
  4. Training Completion Requirement: The principal owner and Academy Director must successfully complete the entire training sequence to Steamoji’s satisfaction. If not, they must retake the program until they pass. Failure to begin the training within 90 days of signing the Franchise Agreement or complete it satisfactorily can result in termination of the agreement.
  5. Ongoing and Additional Training: Steamoji may require Academy Directors and staff to attend periodic workshops, conferences, and seminars. These sessions ensure continuous alignment with operational standards. Additional training may also be requested by the franchisee or required by Steamoji, for which reasonable fees and expenses may apply.

Territory Protection

Steamoji does not offer exclusive territory protection to its franchisees. While a defined geographic area—referred to as the “Territory”—is granted, this does not prevent the franchisor from competing in the general region through other franchisees, company-owned outlets, or alternative distribution methods.

The franchisor retains broad rights to market products and services even within a granted Territory, including through online platforms or different business models. Franchisees are protected only from having another Steamoji Academy located directly within their assigned Territory, as long as they remain in good standing.

However, Steamoji and its affiliates may still solicit customers from within any Territory and can license other Academies nearby, outside the specified boundaries. The boundaries themselves are based on demographic factors such as the number of children aged 6–15 in the area and are described in the Franchise Agreement.
