Monk's Bar and Grill Franchise FDD, Costs & Fees (2025)

Monk’s Bar and Grill is a bar & grill franchise offering casual American fare, drinks, bar services, and live entertainment, serving families and social diners, and known for pub atmosphere, menu variety, and welcoming community environment.

Monk’s Bar & Grill is a full-service casual dining and sports bar franchise known for its signature Monkburgers and lively community atmosphere. The brand was founded in 1947 in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, where it quickly became a local landmark.

Today, Monk’s Bar & Grill operates from its headquarters in Wisconsin Dells and continues to embody its original mission — serving high-quality food in a friendly, welcoming environment.

The company began franchising in 2013 to bring its proven restaurant concept to new markets.

Monk’s Bar & Grill serves a diverse menu featuring gourmet burgers, sandwiches, wraps, salads, appetizers, and a wide variety of beverages. Each location combines a family-friendly dining space with the energetic atmosphere of a sports bar, complete with multiple big-screen TVs for live events.

What sets Monk’s apart is its unique blend of quality, tradition, and community. The franchise maintains a strong focus on fresh ingredients — including never-frozen beef patties — and offers a welcoming space that appeals to both families and sports enthusiasts.

Training

The franchise agreement for Monk’s Bar and Grill outlines a structured training and support system provided by the Franchisor to ensure consistency and operational readiness. Here are the numbered training programs and support initiatives provided:

  1. Initial Training Program
After signing the Franchise Agreement, Monkburger will train the franchisee and designated Management Staff. This program must be successfully completed before opening. It covers operational systems, brand standards, and employee training responsibilities.
  2. Opening Team Support
Once training is completed, an Opening Team will assist with restaurant launch activities for at least 14 days. They help implement the restaurant system and support on-site employee training. Costs apply if their presence extends beyond the initial period.
  3. Operations Manual Access
Franchisees receive either a written or digital copy of the confidential Operations Manual, which outlines procedures, standards, and policies for running the restaurant. Updates and supplements are also provided over time.
  4. Ongoing and Supplemental Training
If the franchisee hires a new manager or if Monkburger deems it necessary, additional training is provided during the franchise term. This includes on-site consulting support upon request, subject to reimbursement of travel and per diem fees.

Territory Protection

Monk’s Bar and Grill grants franchisees a “Protected Area” defined by either a geographic radius or a map-based boundary, depending on the location’s population density. Within this area, Monkburger will not open another franchised or company-owned Monk’s restaurant.

However, franchisees do not receive full exclusivity, as the Franchisor reserves several rights to operate within the same territory under specific conditions.

Monkburger and its affiliates may develop other restaurant concepts, including competitive ones, in the Protected Area if those concepts are acquired after the franchise agreement or are located in venues like airports, college campuses, or entertainment parks.
