  1. Pre-Sale Virtual Training: Franchisees must attend a one-day virtual pre-sale training session. This provides foundational knowledge about the brand and business operations before the franchise opens.
  2. On-Site Opening Training: Approximately seven days before opening, a representative from the franchisor conducts a three-day on-site training at the franchisee’s location. This includes hands-on instruction on daily procedures and best practices.
  3. Initial Training Program: This includes classroom and on-the-job training with a focus on licensing, administration, planning, branding, and industry practices. Locations for training include Woodbridge, New Jersey, the franchisee’s location, or virtual sessions.
  4. Annual Conferences and Refresher Training: Franchisees (or their Operating Principals) must attend regional or national conferences once per year. Additionally, they must attend any refresher or follow-up training designated by the franchisor, though no fee is charged for these sessions.
  5. Training for Replacement Managers and Transferees: Replacement managers and transferees are required to complete the same initial training as original franchisees. These sessions are scheduled based on availability and may involve a training fee.

Territory Protection

Kids United grants its franchisees a protected territory that restricts the franchisor from establishing or authorizing another Kids United location within that specific area. The territory is typically centered around an approved location and spans a circle with a 10-mile radius or an area with 15,000 children aged 0 to 9 years, whichever is smaller. This protection remains in place throughout the franchise term unless modified by mutual written agreement during renewal or transfer.

However, the protection is not absolute. Kids United retains the right to operate in non-traditional venues such as airports, college campuses, and military bases, even within a franchisee’s territory.

Additionally, the franchisor may use alternative channels of distribution—like the internet or direct marketing—to reach customers within any territory, without compensating the franchisee or seeking approval.
