Training

Tuffy Tire & Auto Service provides several structured training programs to prepare and support franchisees throughout their business operations:

1. Initial Training Program: Tuffy offers a required new dealer training program conducted at the Tuffy Technical Center in Toledo, Ohio. This course lasts between two to four weeks, depending on the franchisee's experience level, and covers operations, hands-on training, and customer service techniques. There is no fee for the training itself, but franchisees must cover travel, lodging, and other personal expenses.
2. Set-Up Assistance Training: Around the time of opening, Tuffy sends one or more employees to assist in setting up the franchise for approximately one week. This includes support in establishing operational readiness and staff training to ensure the franchise starts strong.
3. Additional Training and Sales Programs: Tuffy may require franchisees to attend extra training sessions, sales programs, and meetings as needed. These are scheduled at the discretion of the franchisor and are designed to keep franchisees aligned with new systems or service offerings.
4. Performance Assessment Training: Roughly three months after the franchise opens, Tuffy may conduct a one-day performance assessment. This involves evaluating financial and administrative operations and offering tailored guidance. Tuffy typically covers the franchisee's travel costs for this assessment.

Territory Protection

Tuffy Tire & Auto Service grants its franchisees a "protected area," generally defined as the geographic zone within a three-mile radius of the licensed franchise location. Within this area, the franchisor agrees not to open or authorize any other business operating under the Tuffy trademarks.

This territorial protection is maintained without the need for the franchisee to meet sales or market penetration thresholds. However, Tuffy does not grant exclusive territory rights, meaning franchisees can still face competition in their protected area.

The franchisor and other affiliates may market or sell products using different trademarks or through alternative distribution channels such as online sales, telemarketing, or catalogs. Additionally, Tuffy retains rights to operate or license similar businesses under other names within or outside the protected territory.
