RimTyme Franchise FDD, Costs & Fees (2025)

RimTyme Custom Wheels & Tires is an automotive retail franchise offering custom wheels, tires, and rent-to-own payment plans, serving vehicle enthusiasts seeking upgrades, and known for same-day installations, flexible financing and a targeted niche market.

RimTyme Custom Wheels and Tires started in 2005 as a retail concept dedicated to aftermarket wheels, tires, and vehicle customization. The brand operates from its headquarters in Plano, Texas, and originally emerged from a larger rent-to-own franchise group before establishing its own franchise system.

The company opened its franchise program in 2007, allowing business owners to enter a niche within the automotive aftermarket space. RimTyme locations focus on selling, financing, and installing a wide range of custom wheels, tires, and add-on accessories.

What sets RimTyme apart is its large on-hand inventory, fast same-day installation, and flexible payment options. This mix attracts customers who want personalized vehicle upgrades while staying within a manageable budget.

Training

RimTyme provides structured and mandatory training programs for franchisees and their managers to ensure consistent operations across its locations. The training includes both initial instruction and ongoing education designed to meet operational standards. Here are the main training programs provided by the franchisor:

  1. Initial Training Program
RimTyme requires new franchisees and their designated managers to attend and satisfactorily complete an initial training program. This training is mandatory unless the franchisee already operates RimTyme stores or has relevant industry experience, in which case the franchisor may waive the requirement at its discretion.
  2. Manager Training
Any new manager hired after the franchise agreement must also complete the initial training program, if the franchisor deems it necessary. The franchisee bears the costs associated with this training, including travel, lodging, meals, and wages.
  3. Additional Mandatory Training
The franchisor may require franchisees and managers to attend further training sessions designated as mandatory. These could include refresher courses or updates to operational procedures, and all associated expenses are the responsibility of the franchisee.

Territory Protection

RimTyme grants franchisees a Protected Territory within which it will not authorize or operate another RimTyme Rental Store using its proprietary marks and systems. This Protected Territory is typically defined by a radius—often five miles—around the approved franchise location and is documented in the Franchise Agreement.

However, the exclusivity is limited and does not apply to other brands or businesses operated by the franchisor or its affiliates, nor does it prevent internet sales or other forms of alternative distribution within that territory.

While RimTyme provides territorial protection from physical store duplication, it retains broad rights to operate or license competing businesses under different names or systems, including mobile units and kiosks. The franchise is otherwise non-exclusive, and franchisees may face competition from other channels such as Rent-A-Center, ColorTyme, and Acima units, which may operate within or near the same territory.
