Itex Franchise FDD, Costs & Fees (2025)

Itex is a barter exchange network that facilitates cashless transactions between businesses, helping them trade goods and services to save money and increase sales.

Itex is a North American leader in cashless trade exchanges. The franchise was founded in 1982 in Bellevue, Washington, where it is still headquartered today. Itex began offering franchise opportunities in 2002, enabling entrepreneurs to operate their own trade exchange offices using Itex's proprietary systems.

The company allows businesses to trade goods and services using a unique digital currency called Itex dollars, helping members preserve cash while growing their customer base.

Franchisees manage local Itex member networks and earn revenue from transaction fees and membership dues. They are responsible for signing up businesses, facilitating trades, and promoting local activity within the exchange. What sets Itex apart is its established digital currency platform and reputation in the barter industry.

Unlike traditional barter networks, Itex offers an organized, tech-driven system that supports businesses across multiple industries. Members can use Itex dollars to buy from and sell to other businesses in the nationwide network, which increases liquidity and business opportunities.

Training

The franchise offered by Itex includes a comprehensive training program designed to prepare franchisees for successful operation. Here are the key training components provided by the Franchisor:

  1. Initial Training Course
This mandatory course must be completed by the individual, partner, owner, or LLC member responsible for the day-to-day operations. It spans four to five days and is typically conducted at the Itex corporate training facility. It covers the Itex system, business development, member enrollment, accounting, and trade directing practices.
  2. Optional Manager/Staff Training
While only one owner or operator is required to attend the initial training, franchisees may bring additional staff or managers at their own expense. This inclusion is optional but encouraged to foster consistent operational standards.
  3. Supplemental and Refresher Training
Itex may invite franchisees to attend periodic refresher programs or seminars to stay updated on operational best practices. These are provided at no charge, but all travel-related expenses are borne by the franchisee.

Territory Protection

The franchise offered by Itex does not provide territory protection to its franchisees. According to the Franchise Agreement, franchisees are not granted exclusive territorial rights, nor are they given the ability to exclude or control the placement of other franchises or distribution channels within any geographic area.

The franchisor retains the right to open or approve new franchise locations anywhere, including areas near an existing franchisee's business. Although Itex generally encourages new franchisees to maintain a minimum distance of 10 miles from existing offices, this is not a guaranteed protection or enforceable restriction.

Franchisees may face competition from other Itex franchises, company-owned outlets, or other Itex-authorized distribution methods. This lack of exclusivity extends to all customer segments and geographies, as the franchisor may market or sell services directly or indirectly to any customer regardless of their location.
