Training

GradePower Learning provides a comprehensive training program for franchisees that includes multiple phases to ensure effective preparation for operating a learning center:

  1. Initial Online and Self-Directed Training: After the franchise fee is paid and before the business opens, franchisees must complete up to 50 hours or more of self-directed online modules. These cover topics such as an introduction to GradePower, center administration, finance, marketing, sales, staffing, and more.
  2. Classroom Training: Upon completion of the online courses, franchisees attend a 2-week classroom session (at least 50 hours) at GradePower's headquarters in London, Ontario, or another designated location. This training focuses on the practical operations of the GradePower system.
  3. Tailored Practical Training: Following classroom instruction, practical training sessions are provided. These are tailored to individual needs and may include the designated manager or education director. These sessions are offered four times annually.
  4. Ongoing and Advanced Training: GradePower may require franchisees and their staff to attend additional or advanced training during the franchise term. These sessions are designed to address updates in the system, performance issues, or staff changes and can occur in-person or online.
  5. Training for Additional Personnel: Upon request and subject to availability, the franchisor may offer initial training to more than the standard three individuals (franchisee, manager, and education director), though the franchisee must cover all associated expenses.

Territory Protection

GradePower Learning does provide territory protection to its franchisees, though it is not entirely exclusive. Each franchise is granted a defined territory based on demographic considerations, which may be outlined as a geographic boundary or a radius—typically no smaller than 1/4 mile in dense areas.

Within this designated area, the franchisee has the right to operate their learning center, and GradePower agrees not to open another fixed-location franchise within that territory as long as the franchisee remains in good standing.

However, the protection has limitations. The franchisor reserves the right to sell products or services through other distribution channels like the Internet or retail, even within the franchisee’s territory. Additionally, GradePower may operate or franchise competing businesses under different trademarks or as part of mergers and acquisitions, which could lead to indirect competition inside the protected zone.
