CleanNet, often referred to as CleanNet USA, operates as a nationwide commercial cleaning and facility services franchise. The brand supports a wide range of clients — from office buildings and industrial sites to retail stores, medical facilities, airports, banks, and other business environments — by delivering professional janitorial and maintenance solutions.
The business traces its origins to 1987, when founder Mark Salek launched the concept before opening the first regional office in the Columbia, Maryland area the following year. Today, the company is based in Alexandria, Virginia, and has expanded its footprint across the country through a network of regional operations and franchise locations.
CleanNet started offering franchise opportunities in 1988 and has grown into one of the major players in the commercial cleaning industry. Its franchise model covers far more than routine janitorial work, incorporating facility upkeep, specialized sanitation programs, and environmentally focused cleaning options.

CleanNet provides structured training to ensure franchisees and their management personnel operate according to its standards. Below are the training programs outlined in the franchise disclosure:
Initial Certification Program The Initial Certification Program is mandatory and must be completed by both the Designated Operator and the Manager of the franchise. It covers CleanNet methods and standards and includes testing at the conclusion of each session to ensure comprehension and proficiency. CleanNet provides this program for up to two individuals at no charge, though franchisees are responsible for all related travel and living expenses.
Ongoing Certification Requirements CleanNet may require the Designated Operator, Manager, and other employees to obtain additional certifications as specified in writing. These updates are determined solely by the franchisor and may be adjusted to meet evolving standards and operational requirements.
Optional Continuing Education and Seminars CleanNet offers optional ongoing education through seminars, meetings, and other certification programs. Attendance may be subject to reasonable fees, and franchisees are responsible for associated travel and lodging costs.
Territory Protection
CleanNet does not grant exclusive territory protection to its franchisees. Although franchisees are assigned a “Fulfillment Area”—a mutually agreed-upon region typically within 30 miles of their home or office—this area is not exclusive.
CleanNet and its affiliates retain the right to establish additional franchises, sell through other distribution methods, or operate company-owned outlets within the same area.
Franchisees may encounter direct competition from other CleanNet franchisees or from the franchisor itself. Additionally, there are no rights of first refusal or options granted to acquire new territories or accounts.
While the franchisor agrees to offer Initial Accounts within a franchisee’s Fulfillment Area, this is the extent of their territorial commitment, and there are no guarantees that competition will be limited or territory protected.
