Hungry Howie’s Pizza, a renowned name in the pizza franchise sector, is recognized for its innovative pizza-making techniques and robust franchise support system. Established in 1973 by James Hearn in Taylor, Michigan, Hungry Howie’s has expanded across 20 states, solidifying its presence in the American pizza chain market.
Headquartered in Madison Heights, Michigan, Hungry Howie’s began offering franchise opportunities in 1983, showcasing a strong history of growth and support for franchisees. What distinguishes Hungry Howie’s in the competitive pizza industry is its pioneering concept of Flavored Crust® pizza, where flavors are baked directly into the crust.
This unique approach, combined with a commitment to flavor innovation, high food quality, and a diverse menu featuring pizzas, oven-baked subs, Howie Bread®, fresh salads, Howie Wings®, and various desserts and beverages, has established Hungry Howie’s as a standout brand in the market.
Here's what you would need to invest if you were to start this franchise. These costs are provided by the franchisor in the Franchise Disclosure Document.
Prior to opening a Hungry Howie’s Pizza outlet, franchisees or their designated operators must complete the brand's comprehensive training program. This program includes three weeks of hands-on in-store training and one week of online instruction.
The operator training is conducted at the Michigan headquarters and a nearby training store, covering essential aspects of running a pizza outlet. Topics include operational techniques, equipment handling, computer software proficiency, and maintaining the brand's high operational standards.
In addition to the initial training, Hungry Howie’s Pizza provides ongoing support and resources to its franchisees, ensuring they stay updated with the latest operational practices and consistently meet the brand's standards.
Franchisees are permitted to operate a Hungry Howie’s Pizza Restaurant within a specific "Designated Area" as outlined in the Franchise Agreement. This Designated Area is intended solely for site selection and does not guarantee any territorial exclusivity or protection.
However, as long as the Franchise Agreement remains valid and the franchisee is not in default, Hungry Howie’s agrees not to establish or franchise another Hungry Howie’s Unit with a physical location within the franchisee's Territory.
Despite this, Hungry Howie’s reserves the right to solicit or accept orders from customers using the Marks or any other trademarks, without territorial restrictions.
