Extreme Pita is a fast-casual restaurant franchise known for fresh, healthy pita wraps, salads, soups, and flatbread pizzas. The franchise was founded in 1997 by brothers Alex and Mark Rechichi in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
It was created to offer a flavorful and nutritious alternative to traditional fast food. The menu features customizable pita sandwiches made with quality meats, fresh vegetables, and options for vegetarian and health-focused customers.
The brand is headquartered in Richmond Hill, Ontario, and later became part of the MTY Group portfolio, a major multi-brand franchisor in North America. Extreme Pita began franchising shortly after opening its first location and expanded across Canada and into the United States.
Extreme Pita stands out with its focus on healthier, customizable menu options, which aligns with modern consumer demand for nutritious and convenient meals. Unlike many traditional fast-food chains, it positions itself as a fresh and vibrant alternative.

Extreme Pita offers a detailed and structured training program to ensure franchisees are well-equipped to operate their business successfully. Here’s a breakdown of the key training programs provided by the franchisor:
Initial Training Program Franchisees must complete a mandatory Training Program before opening the store, which includes approximately 40 hours of “New Owner Training” and 40 hours of “In-Store Training.” This training can be held online or in-person at designated locations. The Designated Manager is also required to attend and pass a competency test to complete the training successfully.
Additional Training and Seminars The franchisor may require franchisees and their personnel to attend additional training sessions, refresher courses, or seminars throughout the term of the agreement. These programs are mandatory and can be charged at rates ranging from $500 to $1,500. All travel, lodging, and other related expenses must be covered by the franchisee.
Operational Oversight and Retraining If a franchisee fails to meet the brand's operational standards, the franchisor may require retraining or assign a manager to supervise store operations. This may be done at the franchisee’s expense after written notice and a 10-day opportunity to cure any deficiencies. Such actions are taken to ensure compliance with Extreme Pita’s system standards.
Training for Transfers and Successions In the case of franchise transfers or if a new Designated Manager is appointed, the individual must attend and successfully complete the franchisor’s training. Consent from the franchisor is required before the transfer or appointment is finalized. Failure to meet these conditions can lead to denial of transfer or termination of the agreement.
Territory Protection
Extreme Pita grants each franchisee a franchise for a specific “Licensed Location,” which is detailed in Schedule A of the Franchise Agreement. However, this territory is not exclusive. Even if a territory is designated, the franchisor may retain the right to operate or license others to operate within that same region.
Franchisees should also be aware that Extreme Pita or its affiliates may implement marketing programs that allow them to solicit or sell to customers across multiple areas, including within a franchisee’s territory.
The franchisee's sole protection lies in the defined Licensed Location, but it does not include broader territorial exclusivity. This means that while the franchisee operates from a fixed, approved location, competition from other franchises or the franchisor itself within the broader area is possible.
