The Tailored Closet is a premier home organization franchise specializing in custom storage solutions for closets, pantries, laundry rooms, home offices, and more. Founded in 2006 as Closet Tailors in Irvine, California, the brand rebranded to Tailored Living in 2010 and began franchising the same year.

In 2022, it split into two distinct franchises: The Tailored Closet and PremierGarage, each focusing on their respective areas of expertise.

Headquartered in Irvine, California, The Tailored Closet offers personalized design, measuring, and installation services. Its product range includes custom closets, wall beds, craft rooms, and entryway storage solutions.

Franchisees benefit from a mobile business model, utilizing branded vehicles to provide in-home consultations and installations, which helps minimize overhead costs.

What sets The Tailored Closet apart is its commitment to whole-home organization, providing solutions that go far beyond standard closet systems.

Training

Tailored Living provides a robust and structured training program to ensure franchisees are well-prepared to operate successfully. The training is composed of several interconnected modules and support services:

  1. Pre-Academy Training: Conducted virtually, this phase includes training on technology platforms such as email, The Source Community Platform, and other operational tools.
  2. Academy Training: This is a 10-day in-person program held at the HFC Experience Center in Coppell, Texas. The curriculum includes modules on showroom tools, design principles, pricing, job management software, sales process, installation, and marketing.
  3. Post-Academy Training: Delivered virtually, this includes ongoing coaching and support to reinforce concepts and help with implementation after the Academy.
  4. Staff Training: Franchisees and their managers are responsible for training their own staff, but they may use Tailored Living’s proprietary materials like the Manual and Handbook for internal training purposes.

Territory Protection

Tailored Living grants franchisees a protected territory defined by ZIP Codes, usually consisting of approximately 100,000 households. While the franchisor commits not to establish another Tailored Living franchise selling and installing organizing units within the designated territory, it does not grant absolute exclusivity.

Franchisees may still face competition from other franchisees, company-owned outlets, or third-party channels operating under different trademarks. The franchisee's ability to expand into neighboring areas, known as "Gray Areas," requires the franchisor’s approval and does not confer any rights of first refusal or purchase.

Additionally, Tailored Living retains the right to conduct e-commerce or catalog sales within a franchisee's territory without compensation to the franchisee, as long as those methods do not involve both sale and installation services.
