Lemon Tree: A Trusted Name in Family Hair Care for Over 50 Years

Lemon Tree Hair Salons has built a strong reputation as a go-to destination for affordable, full-service hair care across the United States. Launched in 1974 on Long Island, New York, the brand has grown steadily over the decades and holds the distinction of being the oldest and most expansive hair salon franchise in the region. Today, the company is headquartered in Parsippany, New Jersey.

Just two years after its founding, Lemon Tree opened the doors to franchising in 1976, giving aspiring business owners the chance to partner with a brand focused on accessible, quality salon experiences.

Lemon Tree stands out by serving clients of all ages with a complete menu of salon offerings. From trims and styling to advanced color treatments, smoothing services, and deep-conditioning options, each salon provides personalized care that goes beyond basic haircuts—making it a one-stop destination for the entire family.

Training

Lemon Tree Family Salon offers a comprehensive and tiered training program designed to prepare franchisees and their staff for successful operations. The training components are:

  1. Initial Management Training Program
This program is mandatory and includes both virtual and hands-on components, typically conducted at a Lemon Tree Family Salon location. It must be completed within two to eight weeks before the salon opens. One Principal and one General Manager can attend at no charge, although they must cover travel, lodging, and other incidental expenses.
  2. Opening Assistance
A trained representative from Lemon Tree provides on-site support at the new salon for up to five days during the opening phase. This includes training, supervision, and operational assistance to ensure a smooth launch.
  3. Ongoing Training
Franchisees are required to participate in up to three days of ongoing training annually. These sessions may be mandatory and could include attendance at national business meetings or annual conventions held at locations designated by the franchisor.
  4. On-Site Remedial Training
If needed or upon request, the franchisor can provide additional on-site training and support. Franchisees must pay for these services, including a per diem fee and all related travel expenses.
  5. Consultative Support
Beyond formal training, Lemon Tree offers consultative assistance via phone, email, or video conferencing. This includes guidance on operations, marketing, employee training, and other essential aspects of managing the business.

Territory Protection

Lemon Tree Family Salon grants franchisees a defined territory with limited protection. During the franchise term, and if the franchisee is not in default, Lemon Tree will not open or authorize another salon within that territory.

However, this protection excludes alternative distribution methods. The franchisor may still sell products or services in the territory through online or other channels, and may open or affiliate with other salon concepts nearby, including company-owned units.
