Papa Ray's Franchise FDD, Costs & Fees (2025)

Papa Ray’s is a pizza and Italian food franchise offering pizzas, subs, pasta, and wings, serving families and communities, and known for family recipes, neighborhood presence, and full menu versatility.

Papa Ray’s Pizza & Wings is a fast-growing pizza and wings franchise founded in 2009 in the Chicago area by brothers John and George Rayyan. Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the brand operates dine-in, carry-out, and delivery locations across the region and began franchising in 2014.

The concept specializes in bold-flavor pizzas, fresh wings, rib tips, mac & cheese, and its signature “Monster Slice” — a 12-inch slice loaded with premium toppings and baked in deck ovens rather than conveyor belts.

Papa Ray’s differentiates itself from typical pizza chains by combining value with high-quality, fresh dough, sauce, and ingredients. Its use of deck-oven cooking, late-night hours, and distinctive oversized slice offering give it a strong appeal among customers seeking authentic, hearty, and affordable meals.

Training

Papa Ray’s Pizza provides a structured training program to ensure franchisees and their teams are well-prepared to operate a successful restaurant. The training includes the following key programs:

  1. Initial Training Program: Prior to opening, franchisees must complete approximately 24 days (six days a week for four weeks) of training in Chicago, Illinois. It includes both classroom and on-the-job training covering a variety of operational topics, such as the history of the franchise, dough preparation, cheese cutting and grinding, phone order handling, salads, and general business practices. Two people (owners or managers) may attend at no cost, though additional trainees incur fees. Participants are responsible for their own travel and living expenses.
  2. On-Site Start-Up Assistance: Around the restaurant’s opening date, a Papa Ray’s representative will spend three days at the franchise location to provide on-site assistance and hands-on training to owners, managers, and employees. This support is included at no additional charge.
  3. Supplemental Education: Throughout the term of the franchise, Papa Ray’s may require attendance at additional seminars, webinars, regional meetings, or training sessions. These may involve tuition fees, and attendees must cover their own travel and accommodation costs.

Territory Protection

Papa Ray’s Pizza does provide a defined protected area to its franchisees, which generally includes a minimum radius of three miles around the restaurant premises.

This Protected Area is detailed in the Franchise Agreement and aims to prevent the franchisor from establishing another franchised or company-owned location within that space, so long as the franchisee is not in default.

However, this protection does not amount to an exclusive territory, as Papa Ray’s reserves the right to operate or franchise locations in specific "limited use facilities" such as airports, college campuses, and shopping centers even if they fall within a franchisee’s Protected Area.
