SpeeDee Oil Change & Tune Up

SpeeDee Oil Change & Tune Up Franchise FDD, Costs & Fees (2025)

Automotive service franchise specializing in quick oil changes, vehicle maintenance, and repair services, providing efficient and reliable automotive care.

SpeeDee Oil Change & Auto Service is a leading automotive maintenance franchise offering fast, reliable, and comprehensive car care services. Founded in December 1980 in Metairie, Louisiana, by Gary Copp and Kevin Bennett, SpeeDee began as a quick oil change shop during a time when traditional service stations were declining.

The company started franchising in 1982 and has since grown to over 150 locations across the United States and Mexico. It is currently headquartered in Greenwood Village, Colorado, and operates under the FullSpeed Automotive brand.

SpeeDee provides a wide range of automotive services, including its signature 17-point oil change, tune-ups, brake repairs, A/C maintenance, alignments, fluid exchanges, and state inspections. This variety of services positions SpeeDee as a one-stop shop for vehicle owners seeking reliable, full-service maintenance.

What sets SpeeDee apart is its focus on customer trust and service quality. Most locations are locally owned and operated, allowing for personalized service. Technicians are ASE-certified, and customers receive detailed service reviews and maintenance records.

Training

SpeeDee Oil Change & Tune-Up provides a thorough and multi-tiered training program for franchisees and their teams. Here are the key training components:

  1. Initial Training Program: Franchisees or their Principal Owners must attend and successfully complete the initial training, which includes three to four days of classroom instruction and five days of hands-on training. The program may be extended by up to five additional days and is held at a location designated by SpeeDee, typically close to the center’s opening.
  2. Manager Training: Franchisees are responsible for training their Managers unless the Principal Owner has already completed the initial training. If the Principal Owner leaves, a replacement must promptly complete the initial training program.
  3. Biennial Convention and Additional Seminars: SpeeDee may host mandatory biennial conventions and other in-person or remote seminars and development programs. Attendance is required for franchisees, Principal Owners, or Managers as designated.

Territory Protection

SpeeDee Oil Change & Tune-Up offers a form of territory protection through what it defines as a "Restricted Territory." This area typically includes a 25-mile radius from the franchisee’s center, as well as from any other SpeeDee centers operating or under construction at the time the restriction takes effect.

If deemed too broad by a court, this radius may be reduced to a more enforceable 20-mile range. This protection applies specifically during a “Restricted Period,” usually the three years following the franchisee’s active role in the business, such as serving as a manager or officer.

However, the protection is not absolute—SpeeDee reserves the right to narrow or adjust the terms, including scope and geographic area, to maintain legal enforceability. Additionally, the protection does not prevent the franchisor or other SpeeDee centers from operating nearby under certain legal or strategic conditions.
